Regardless of model species, agricultural species, and ecological species, biodiversity and genetic novelty are constantly providing fundamental insights for topics involved in ecology, genetics, breeding, and evolutionary biology. The constantly growing data from omics technologies and molecular biology experiments can greatly empower the application potentials of biodiversity indicators, genetic markers, and biological molecular markers (biomarkers) on medicine, agriculture, and conservation. However, how our knowledge on biodiversity and novelty can be used in medicine, agriculture, and conservation is unfortunately still limited. From the prospective of evolutionary biologists, there is a strong incentive to expand and disseminate our knowledge on biodiversity and novelty and the relevant applications.

The goals of this research topic are to pave the way for an inclusive and systematic view of biodiversity and novelty by incorporating knowledge from agricultural, conservation, and medical field. We aim to present a unified picture of biodiversity and novelty from all these relevant fields based on the data-driven and/or wet lab-empowered explorations to expand our knowledge and facilitate real-world applications. Our areas of particular interest include:

• Multi-omics and insightful data from species or populations with agricultural, modelling, ecological, conservational, or medical importance

• Real-world application of biomarkers or diversity indicators

• Multi-omics for endangered animals, plants or organisms living in special extreme environment

• Conservation genomics/genetics of endangered species

• Agricultural crops/animals genetic improvement

We welcome original research, review, hypothesis and protocol reports articles covering all aspects of species with agricultural, modelling, ecological, or medical importance, especially:

• Genomic diversity

• Genetic differentiations underlying phenotypic/ecologic diversity

• Genomic novelty and evolutionary tempo

• Clinical implications from model species

• Special adaptation mechanisms for endangered species or endemic species.

• Landscape genomics/genetics

• Molecular evolution and phylogenetics

• Agricultural crops/animals breeding/improvement application in terms of evolutionary diversity or novelty
