About this Research Topic
The quality assessment of agricultural products involves the analysis of the internal chemical components and external phenotypic traits of agricultural products, while packaging needs to analyze the physical properties of fresh agricultural products, including stress resistance, cell structure, etc. This information and characteristics are closely related to the planting environment, genes, genetics, and other factors of agricultural products. The relevant research results can promote the development of plant biology and product physiology. Non-destructive detection and packaging further enhance automation and intelligence in these areas.
Therefore, this Research Topic aims to provide up-to-date information on the developments and applications of advanced, non-destructive sensing and intelligent packaging technologies for agricultural products, with relevant areas including but not limited to:
• Assessment of external and internal quality;
• Detection of subsurface and internal defects;
• Safety detection of agricultural products;
• Design and development of advanced sensing systems;
• Development of packaging equipment for agricultural products;
• AI for enhanced online quality assessment and packaging
• High speed flexible food packaging robots;
• Intelligent/smart packaging materials and sensors;
• Packaging quality assessment
Frontiers in Plant Science does not accept solely descriptive studies - studies which report responses to treatments and descriptive reports of ‘Omics studies will not be considered if they do not progress biological understanding of these responses.
