Advances in Measuring and Applying Triple Oxygen Isotopes

Triple oxygen isotope measurements (16O/17O/18O) in O-bearing compounds have become an important part of the geochemical toolkit over the past two decades, influencing various fields such as atmospheric chemistry, meteorites and planetary science, hydrology, paleoclimatology, atmospheric evolution and forensic studies, among other promising applications. The methods to measure triple oxygen isotopes in a variety of materials are now achieving analytical precisions that were unimaginable in the past.

This Research Topic welcomes contributions using the 16O/17O/18O isotope system to study modern- and paleo- O-bearing materials, including (but not limited to) waters, ice, sulfates, nitrates, perchlorates, carbonates and silicates. Contributions are welcomed that address analytical methods, theoretical predictions (models), and empirical observations of 16O/17O/18O in water (ice, liquid, vapor) and minerals, with special focus on applications.

This Research Topic is envisioned to include Original Research articles, Review articles or Perspective Letters on any of the aspects discussed above. We encourage contributing authors to explore new applications and theoretical approaches into the triple oxygen isotope systematics and to reflect the increasing importance of this analytical tool.
