Van der Waals (vdW) 2D-crystals exhibit superior physical and chemical properties originating from their unique two-dimensional laminate structure. Due to the anisotropic electronic structure and vibrational properties, they show the anisotropic electron and thermal transportation, and light absorption and scattering. They are strong candidates for future high-integration optoelectronic devices at micro and nano scale.
The relations between the anisotropic electronic structure, vibrational, transportation and optical properties are still not clear. Although some studies show the potential of vdW 2D crystals for future micro- and nano-optoelectronic devices, we are still far from the full understanding and the full development of the technologies that take advantage of vdW 2D crystals. The proposal of new potential applications also requires exploration of all properties of vdW 2D crystals.
The aim of the current Research Topic is to cover promising, recent, and novel research trends in the vdW 2D crystals. Areas to be covered in this Research Topic may include, but are not limited to:
· Modelling
· Synthesis
· Characterization
· Device fabrication
