In 2011 Frontiers in Genetics was launched with the aim to “publish leading edge research, reviews, thinking, and commentary across the full spectrum of genetic and genomic inquiry from the most basic to the most applied”. 10 years later, Frontiers in Genetics fulfilled this goal, maturing into a platform to publish outstanding discoveries, progress and challenges in the field, and becoming the largest open access journal in genetics.
Today, the 21 specialty sections, each directed by a Chief Editor and run by an editorial board of over 7500 dedicated and outstanding Associate Editors and Reviewers, have collectively published over 6000 articles, all of which are freely available online to scientists, doctors, patients, policy makers and the public.
This Research Topic is a celebration of the 10 Year Anniversary of the Frontiers in Genetics Journal, gathering together editors and key contributors to highlight significant elements of the past, present, and future of genetics. This Topic aims to give an overview of the most important advances in genetics over the past 10 years and to provide a platform to discuss current challenges and exciting future research developments in the field.
Frontiers would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the founding Chief Editor of Frontiers in Genetics, Prof. David B Allison for their work in realizing the vision of Open Science and establishing the journals’ worldwide reputation – one that we will continue to build upon as we move into the next 10 years.
