About this Research Topic
In the last three decades, the recurrence plot (RP) and its quantification (RQA) have become important research tools in the analysis of short, noisy and non-stationary data. Theoretical work on RPs has reached considerable maturity, and the method's popularity in recent years continues to increase due to a large number of practical RP/RQA applications in diverse areas such as physiology, astrophysics, biochemistry, finance, climate/paleoclimate, to name a few. Among the new developments are the detection of metastable states through recurrence grammars, recurrence networks of spatial data, entropy assessments using microstates, fuzzy recurrence plots, or inferential statistics derived from RPs.
This Research Topic aims to present advances and applications of the recurrence methodologies for analyzing complex systems in multidisciplinary fields.
We encourage contributions covering methodological introduction, theoretical aspects, new applications and developments that require a complex systems approach using recurrence analysis.
