The International Conference for Young Marine Researchers ICYMARE is a recently founded bottom-up driven networking initiative. ICYMARE conducts an annual on-site conference event as well as a monthly Online Forum to foster the international exchange and networking among marine early career researchers. In both cases, on-site conference and Online Forum, the early careers organize and conduct the whole event but also identify the conference topics and prepare and moderate their topical sessions.

This Research Topic aims to feature articles authored by the early career researchers who were involved as conference or Online Forum session hosts in the ICYMARE initiative. As emerging experts in their respective fields of marine science, they are invited to contribute review articles of specific topics within the topical frame of their ICYMARE conference session. Thus, articles of this Research Topic may come from all fields of marine sciences as it reflects the scope of the ICYMARE conferences.

Early career marine researchers may submit manuscripts to this Research Topic upon invitation by the editors and are required to limit the theme of their article to their research field represented at the ICYMARE conferences. Thus, reviews of specific topics within the research fields of the early career researchers may be the primary article type of this Research Topic. However, other article types may also be submitted.

The Topic Editors Simon Jungblut and Viola Liebich declare that they are members of the ICYMARE (“International Conference for YOUNG Marine Researchers”) team and are collaborating with its young marine researchers' community.

Keywords: Conference, Bottom-up, Students, Review

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
