Background

The pharmaceutical, agricultural and cosmetic industries are increasingly leveraging biotechnological innovations to meet consumer demands for safer, more efficient, and more sustainable products. Genome editing technologies offer precise and targeted methods for modifying genetic traits, enabling the development of novel products with enhanced properties. Currently, much attention has been focused on their applications in medicine and agricultural biotechnology, yet, there is a growing interest in exploring their potential in cosmetics industries.

This Research Topic aims to shed light on the recent progress in genome editing technology and its emerging applications in enhancing the variety, quality, safety, and sustainability of medicine, agriculture, and cosmetics.

We, the Research Topic editors, encourage researchers to submit Original Researches, Brief Research Reports, Systematic Reviews, Reviews, mini-reviews, and Clinical Trials relevant to genome editing technologies and their applications in the medical, agricultural, and cosmetic fields including, but not limited to the following themes:

1. Review the latest developments in genome editing techniques in relevant fields, including CRISPR-Cas9, base editing, and synthetic biology approaches.
2. Examine the advancements in genome editing for medical applications, including gene therapy, personalized medicine, and disease modeling, and evaluate their potential impact on healthcare.
3. Explore the current and potential applications of genome editing in the cosmetics industry, such as developing novel sources and modifying ingredients for personal care products.
4. Investigate the use of genome editing in agriculture, especially in food production, focusing on improving crop traits, improving yield, and developing resistance against diseases and environmental stressors.
5. Assess the regulatory landscape and public perception surrounding the use of genome editing in cosmetics and foods, and identify potential challenges and opportunities.

By addressing the research objectives outlined above, this collection aims to highlight opportunities for innovation and contribute to the development of sustainable and impactful solutions in the relevant industries.
