Background

The field of urology is undergoing rapid transformation with advancements in molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine, particularly focusing on urological cancers and infections. The urobiome, or the microbial community within the urinary tract, has emerged as a significant factor in understanding urological diseases, offering insights into infection mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. Concurrently, immunogenomics is providing a deeper understanding of how genetic variations influence the immune response in these conditions. Despite these advances, there remain unresolved questions concerning how these elements interplay, their role in disease progression, and the potential for personalized treatment. Current debates revolve around the impact of the urobiome on tumor microenvironment and immune cell interactions.

This Research Topic aims to explore the convergence of urobiome and immunogenomics in refining molecular diagnostics and enhancing treatment outcomes for urological cancers and infections. By investigating these interactions, the goal is to uncover new diagnostic biomarkers, understand resistance mechanisms, and develop tailored therapeutic strategies. Specific questions include the identification of microbial signatures associated with cancer prognosis and the genetic determinants of immune responses in urological diseases. Additionally, the research seeks to test hypotheses regarding how microbial and genomic profiling can predict treatment responses.

To gather further insights in the intersection of urobiome and immunogenomics and their implications for urological health, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- The role of the urinary microbiome in urological disease progression and treatment resistance
- Immunogenomic profiling for personalized urological cancer therapy
- Integration of microbiome data in predictive modeling for treatment outcomes
- Microbial and genetic predictors of urological infection severity
- Innovative molecular diagnostic tools for early detection of urological cancers and infections

We invite original research articles, reviews, mini-reviews, methods and protocols, detailed interesting case-reports, commentary, and perspective pieces that provide novel insights or comprehensive overviews in this field. Submissions should advance our understanding of the urobiome’s role in urological health and disease, proposing new avenues for improving patient care.
