Background

Recent advances in genome-editing technologies have unlocked the potential to directly correct pathogenic genetic mutations. Among these, base editing and prime editing represent innovative and highly precise approaches that hold particular promise for the correction of cancer-associated mutations. Unlike traditional genome-editing systems, base editors enable programmable, single-nucleotide conversion without introducing double-strand breaks, while prime editors expand the possibilities by enabling targeted insertions, deletions, and diverse base substitutions.

This Research Topic aims to gather and highlight recent progress in the development and application of base and prime editing tools for the targeted correction of somatic mutations implicated in various cancers.
