Brain imaging and stimulation technologies have revolutionized our understanding of the human brain. Over the past decades, innovations in neuroimaging—such as MRI, PET, MEG, EEG, and functional ultrasound—have provided unprecedented windows into brain structure, function, connectivity, and metabolism. Simultaneously, brain stimulation modalities—including TMS, tDCS, DBS, and emerging noninvasive techniques—have opened new avenues for dissecting neural circuits and therapeutic intervention in neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders.
This Research Topic aims to gather comprehensive reviews, perspectives and opinions that highlight recent trends, discoveries, and technical advancements in brain imaging and stimulation. Our goal is to create a forum for critical synthesis, methodological discussion, and the identification of emerging opportunities and challenges in the field. Both broad overviews and focused, in-depth analyses are welcome, provided they offer substantial insight or synthesis regarding technological, clinical, or theoretical aspects.
This Topic seeks to bridge basic research, translational applications, and clinical implementation, encompassing healthy brain function as well as disease and therapy. Contributions may discuss methodological innovations, neurobiological findings, or the integration of imaging and stimulation approaches.
