  1. Manuscript Extension Submission Deadline 31 October 2026

Background

The crosstalk between the immune system and hematopoietic processes is central to maintaining health and understanding disease. Dysregulation of immune cells, including T cells, monocytes, and macrophages, can alter hematopoietic homeostasis, contributing to conditions ranging from anemia to infection-driven hematological changes. Iron metabolism is tightly connected to both immune function and red blood cell production. Infectious diseases can disrupt these systems, while emerging immunotherapies provide opportunities to restore or modulate immune-hematopoietic balance. Integrating knowledge of immune signaling, hematopoiesis, and iron regulation is essential for advancing both basic science and translational approaches in hematology.

This Research Topic aims to unite studies exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying immune–hematopoietic interactions, with translational relevance to infection, immunotherapy, and iron metabolism. The objective is to create a platform for interdisciplinary research spanning mechanistic immunology, hematology, and therapeutic innovation. Submissions addressing immune modulation in hematological disorders, immunotherapy strategies, cytokine signaling, and the impact of iron metabolism on hematopoiesis are particularly encouraged. By integrating basic, translational, and clinical perspectives, this Topic seeks to highlight innovative strategies that advance understanding and treatment of immune and hematological disorders.

We invite original research, reviews, and clinical studies investigating immune regulation in hematology. Topics of interest include immune cell dynamics in hematological disorders, infection-induced hematopoietic alterations, immunotherapy strategies, cytokine signaling in hematopoiesis, and iron metabolism in red cell and immune function. Studies bridging fundamental mechanisms with translational or clinical applications are especially encouraged. Submissions should align with the central theme of immune–hematopoietic interactions and emphasize potential therapeutic or clinical implications.
