Background

Global infrastructure systems are increasingly exposed to multiple and compounding natural hazards. Enhancing resilience in the built environment—encompassing buildings, transportation infrastructure, coastal infrastructure, and other lifelines—is a critical engineering and societal challenge. This Special Collection will gather recent advances in multi-hazard risk assessment, resilient design methodologies, and adaptive infrastructure strategies, at the intersection between social and technical systems. It aims to provide a comprehensive resource for researchers and practitioners dealing with resilience within the building environment and decision-making based on a diversity of case studies.

This Special Collection is particularly timely given the accelerating impacts of climate change, urban densification, and increasing hazard intensity and frequency. The scope and topics of interest include:

1. Resilience-based design and performance assessment

2. Seismic, tsunami, hurricane, flood, tornado, and compound hazard engineering

3. Fragility modeling and vulnerability assessment of engineered systems
