Objective: We aimed to evaluate the impact of enhanced comprehensive nursing on pain intensity and negative emotions in oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy Methods: This randomized controlled trial enrolled 100 oncology patients who were randomly allocated into two groups. The control group(n = 50) received routine nursing care, while the observation group (n = 50) received enhanced comprehensive nursing in addition to routine care. Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) were employed to assess pain and psychological status before and after nursing. The Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36) was implemented to evaluate quality of life. Adverse reactions, including diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and bleeding, were compared between the two groups. Patient satisfaction with nursing care was also assessed. Measurement data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation ( x ± s). Paired t-tests were used for intra-group comparisons, and independent sample t-tests were used for inter-group comparisons. Categorical data were expressed as percentages (%), and inter-group comparisons were made using the χ² test. Results: Primary outcomes: After nursing, significant improvements were observed in both groups in terms of VAS scores (control group: 7.38 ± 0.83 vs 6.18 ± 0.72; observation group: 7.52 ± 0.89 vs 4.20 ± 0.97), SAS scores (control group: 43.24 ± 6.75 vs 35.50 ± 7.56; observation group: 46.64 ± 2.55 vs 26.76 ± 2.63), and SDS scores (control group: 66.44 ± 4.15 vs 62.44 ± 4.15; observation group: 66.52 ± 3.06 vs 56.56 ± 2.56) (P < 0.05), with the observation group showing greater improvements than the control group (P < 0.05). Secondary outcomes: After nursing, SF-36 scores increased in both groups (P < 0.05), with the observation group scoring higher than the control group (P < 0.05). The observation group had a lower incidence of adverse reactions (P < 0.05) and higher nursing satisfaction (P < 0.05) compared to the control group. Conclusion: Enhanced comprehensive nursing for oncology patients receiving chemotherapy effectively alleviates pain, reduces anxiety and depression, enhances quality of life, and reduces the occurrence of adverse reactions, demonstrating superior clinical benefits compared with routine care.
