The lack of women representation in all scientific and tech fields is a reality. It is particularly the case in shark and ray science which has been historically dominated by men. In Frontiers in Fish Science, we believe that science and gender equality are essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO, but also to improve the diversity and richness of the field of elasmobranch science by bringing new energy and ideas.
Frontiers in Fish Science is committed to defeat gender discrimination, supporting and encouraging girls and women to pursue a career in the fish science field with a particular interest in reaching a gender balance in elasmobranch science. To achieve this ambitious goal we are proud to offer this space to increase visibility, network opportunities and promote the work of female scientist across all fields of elasmobranch science.
Therefore, this Research Topic aims to serve as a platform to highlight the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of elasmobranch science leaded by female scientists. Researchers are invited to present advances in theory, as well as experimental, methodological and empirical work in the study of elasmobranchs.
Keywords:
Sharks, Rays, Biology, Ecology, Methodology, Conservation, Diversity in science
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
