Background

Tumor-related illnesses form a major global health challenge. Over the past decades, advancement in therapies and treatment approaches has been significant, setting the stage for exploring the intersection of gene-based therapies in the oncological field. Metabolic pathway alterations in cancer cells signify pivotal physiological shifts important in the study of tumorigenesis. These transformations in critical genes contribute to cancer's aggressiveness and highlight genes like GLUT1, G6PD, and TYMS. These genes, due to their overexpression and significant roles in cancer progression, present opportunities for therapy and diagnosis through gene-based interventions.

This Research Topic aims to explore deliberate, gene-targeted strategies for both treating and understanding cancer. It focuses particularly on the genetic aspects governing cancer's metabolic pathways and immune responses. Considering the complexity and personalized nature of cancer, there is a special interest in how these gene-centered treatments can be tailored to improve specific patient outcomes and enhance diagnostic precision.

To gather further insights into gene-based interventions in oncology, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Metabolic Changes in Cancer Cells: Research into the critical physiological shifts in cancer cells due to metabolic changes, including their impact on tumor development and cellular interactions.
• Genetic Role in Tumor Development: Studies focused on the transformations and overexpression of key genes during tumor progression and their direct implications in cancer aggressiveness.
• Genes as Diagnostic and Treatment Aids: Examination of genes as potential diagnostic markers or targets for therapeutic approaches, including the validation of gene-based therapies.
• Gene Immunotherapy & Personalized Treatments: Investigations into personalized gene immunotherapies, specifically methods that modulate immune responses in vivo, tailored to individual tumor characteristics.
