About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is still accepting articles.

Background

In recent years, global warming is thought to have increased the frequency of extreme weather events, including droughts, floods, high temperatures and more. This results in decreased crop production. At the same time, climate warming has increased the frequency and severity of pest and disease outbreaks. To address these challenges, it is important to study resistance mechanisms of crops and enhance their resilience, toward sustainable development of agriculture.

This research topic aims to explore resistance mechanisms and genetic improvement strategies to protect crops from extreme weather conditions (such as drought, flooding, high temperature, low temperature and salinity) and from associated pests and diseases (by identification and dissection of resistance genes and their regulatory networks). These studies can provide new strategies for crop genetic improvement, cultivating more resilient crop varieties to address global climate challenges and improve food security.

Generally suitable to this topic are research papers on gene cloning and functional analysis, marker-assisted selection, gene families and bioinformatics related to crop resistance mechanisms. Manuscript types include original research articles, review articles, and more. Specific priorities include:

• Gene cloning and functional validation
• Localization of key genes related to resistance and quality, as well as marker development and application
• Research on the role of gene families in crop resistance mechanisms
• Utilizing genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics to analyze crop resistance mechanisms
