As human beings, we have always sought to expand on our abilities, including our cognitive and motor skills. One of the still-underrated tools employed to this end is brain stimulation techniques. Until recently, brain stimulation techniques were almost exclusively used in studies with rehabilitation purposes. Only a small strand of literature has focused on applying brain stimulation techniques to healthy people to enhance cognitive abilities such as decision-making, working memory, attention, source memory, cognitive control, learning, computational speed, risk-taking, and impulsive behaviors. Therefore, it seems that the findings in this field are the indirect results of rehabilitation research. In this collection, we have set to investigate such studies and evaluate the brain stimulation techniques' effectuality in terms of how they improve the cognitive skills in healthy subjects.
A Research Topic focused on Cognitive Enhancement by Brain Stimulation Techniques allows for a comprehensive examination of recent advancements and developments in the field and can provide a platform for researchers to share their findings and insights with others in the field. The publication of the Research Topic allows for a comprehensive examination of the current state of the field and provides a valuable resource for the scientific community and beyond.
Additionally, it can help to raise awareness of the importance of evaluating cognitive enhancement approaches by brain stimulations and encourage further research in this area, ultimately leading to the development of more effective cognitive enhancement by brain stimulation methods.
This Research Topic is focused on new insights, novel developments, current challenges, latest discoveries, recent advances, and future perspectives in the field of Cognitive Enhancement by Brain Stimulation Techniques.
The Research Topic solicits forward-looking contributions from researchers that describe the state of the art, outlining recent developments and major accomplishments that have been achieved and that need to occur to move the field forward. This Frontiers Research Topic aims to shed light on the progress made in the past decade in the Cognitive Enhancement by Brain Stimulations, and on its future challenges to provide a thorough overview of the field. This article collection will inspire, inform, and provide direction and guidance to researchers in the field.
We aim to improve the understanding of the relationship between cognitive processes and resting state networks, the dynamics of cognitive processes, to enhance cognitive abilities such as decision-making, working memory, attention, source memory, cognitive control, learning, computational speed, risk-taking, and impulsive behaviors by applying brain stimulation techniques to healthy people.
Methods and applications in cognitive enhancement using brain stimulation techniques aim to highlight the latest experimental methods used to investigate fundamental questions about the processes involved in cognition enhancement.
We welcome several types of submissions: Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Method Articles, Clinical Trials, Case Reports, and Mini-Review Articles. This Research Topic aims to publish key findings about methodologies, applications, and interpretation of discoveries in cognitive enhancement by brain stimulation techniques. We invite contributions that explore the use of brain stimulations for cognitive enhancement in healthy people from various perspectives, including but not limited to:
• Mechanistic studies investigating the neural effects of brain stimulation on cognitive functions
