Background

It can be widely recognized that doctoral research into construction management has achieved numerous admirable works in research and development, for practical enhancements in the built environment. Concerning fundamental management theories – including the scientific management theory, the administrative management theory, the behavioural management theory, the management science theory, and the organizational environment theory – and advances in sciences and technologies, doctoral researchers have made huge efforts through pioneering research and pilot activities, to strive to novel solutions at the frontiers of construction management. Their research works have been published in journals and proceedings and as books and chapters. It is of the Topic Editors’ interest to offer a new opportunity for doctoral researchers in construction management, to present their research that can reflect advances and leadership.

The collection of research articles under this Research Topic aims to provide a unique platform for both doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, as well as their supervisors and collaborators, to present excellent research outcomes in the subject field of construction management. This Research Topic is therefore open to all academics and professionals who have been making the best endeavours for outstanding doctoral research in construction management. Issues under this Research Topic should relate to all theoretical and practical developments in construction management. An annual collection of published articles under this Research Topic will help to form an eBook series on doctoral research in construction management, to stimulate discovery and innovation.

This Research Topic is established in the Construction Management section of the international journal Frontiers in Built Environment (Electronic ISSN: 2297-3362). The editors would like to invite all doctoral and postdoctoral researchers as well as their supervisors and collaborators to participate in this initiative in the process to advance research into construction management at Frontiers.

This series of topical collections on Doctoral Research in Construction Management was launched in 2020, with strong support from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) on a unique award, i.e. The CIOB Award for Outstanding Doctoral Research Contributions to Construction Management.
