Background

The field of kidney transplantation faces significant challenges related to infectious diseases. These conditions pose a risk not only due to immunosuppression required for successful transplantation but also because of the complex interactions between the transplanted organ, the host immune system, and infectious agents.

Researchers are actively working to unravel these interactions, as understanding them is crucial for improving patient outcomes. Although advances have been made in identifying pathogens and their molecular pathways, gaps remain, particularly in translating these findings into effective clinical practices. Ongoing debates focus on the best strategies to manage infections and the intricate balance of preventing rejection while minimising infection risks.

This Research Topic aims to explore the intersection of infectious diseases and kidney transplantation from a molecular to a clinical perspective. By examining the latest molecular insights, we hope to provide a clearer understanding of the pathogens involved and their impact on transplant outcomes. Additional objectives include identifying key molecular markers, investigating host-pathogen interactions, and assessing current clinical management strategies to enhance patient protocols and outcomes.

To gather further insights in this multidisciplinary domain, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

o Molecular mechanisms of infectious diseases in kidney transplantation
o Impact of immunosuppressive therapies on infection susceptibility
o Host-pathogen interactions in transplant recipients
o Development and evaluation of infection prevention protocols
o Clinical studies on infection management and patient outcomes

We invite authors to submit original research, reviews, case reports, and systematic reviews.
