Background

Corneal astigmatism is a fundamental consideration in visual rehabilitation, especially in patients undergoing cataract surgery. Precise diagnosis and management are essential to achieving optimal refractive outcomes. Recent advances in corneal imaging, toric intraocular lenses (IOLs), and intraoperative aberrometry have significantly improved our ability to correct astigmatism during cataract surgery. Nevertheless, many aspects remain under active investigation, including posterior corneal astigmatism, surgically induced astigmatism, and the long-term rotational stability of toric IOLs. A comprehensive understanding of corneal biomechanics and the impact of corneal irregularities is also essential for improving patient outcomes.

This Research Topic aims to gather the latest research on the diagnosis, classification, and correction of corneal astigmatism in patients undergoing cataract surgery and other anterior segment procedures. With this collection we hope to highlight the importance of personalized astigmatism correction and the evolving technologies that support advancement in this area. Our goal is to stimulate academic discussion and clinical innovation by featuring original research, reviews, and expert opinions on the challenges and future directions in astigmatism management.
