Background

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is revolutionizing energy management by enabling real-time monitoring, automation, and optimization of energy usage across industrial systems. However, traditional centralized architectures face challenges such as data tampering, lack of transparency, and inefficient energy distribution. Blockchain technology, with its decentralized, immutable, and transparent ledger, offers a promising solution to these issues. Recent studies have demonstrated blockchain’s potential in enhancing data integrity, enabling peer-to-peer energy trading, and automating energy transactions through the use of smart contracts.

Despite the theoretical advantages, integrating blockchain into IIoT energy systems presents challenges related to scalability, latency, and resource constraints of edge devices. There is a need for lightweight, energy-efficient blockchain frameworks that can operate within the limitations of IIoT environments while ensuring security, transparency, and operational efficiency.

This Research Topic explores the cutting-edge potential of blockchain technology as a transformative tool for energy management within the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT). It is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of current technological limits to forecast the next generation of innovations that will redefine how industries manage and utilize energy more efficiently and transparently.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Blockchain-based architectures tailored for IIoT energy management

- Consensus mechanisms suitable for IIoT devices

- Real-Time IIoT data management approaches
