Background

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) present a critical global health issue, especially affecting the aging population, thus contributing significantly to worldwide disability rates. Epidemiological data from 2021 indicated that over 1.68 billion individuals were living with MSDs, a number anticipated to rise above 2.16 billion by 2035. These disorders are notably prevalent in high-income regions, with a significant impact on women. This increasing burden calls for innovative and multidisciplinary approaches aimed to enhance prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across the spectrum of care.

A key player in this realm is immunobiology, which offers deep insights into the pathogenesis of MSDs and facilitates the development of targeted interventions. Key mechanisms, such as chronic inflammation, metabolic reprogramming, and irregular immune-stem cell interactions, contribute to conditions like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Meanwhile, surgical innovation continues to revolutionize MSD management, with methods such as Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), achieving fewer hospital stays and complications. Additionally, rehabilitation strategies have embraced personalized, technology-driven approaches like telerehabilitation, wearable sensors, and AI algorithms. By bridging these innovations, a trend towards efficient, patient-centered musculoskeletal care.

This Research Topic aims to integrate expertise from various fields including immunobiology, surgical innovation, and rehabilitation science to reduce the burden of MSDs. By combing cutting-edge biological findings with technology-driven rehabilitation methods, our focus is to enhance patient-centered care, improve accessibility, and boost long-term outcomes.

To gather further insights into multidisciplinary innovations in musculoskeletal care, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
o Immune regulation in musculoskeletal disorders
o Biomaterial scaffolds for tissue engineering
o Immune responses during the tissue regeneration process
o Advancements in surgical techniques for musculoskeletal disorders
o The application of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery in musculoskeletal disorders
o Technologies as 3D printing for surgical precision
o Technology-driven approaches in rehabilitation
o Novel biomarkers for predicting Musculoskeletal Disorders
o Patient-centered care models in implementing MSD interventions
o Application of AI algorithms in rehabilitation and re-jury prevention

This Research Topic accepts submissions of all article types that explore novel mechanisms, interdisciplinary interventions, and real-world implementations aimed at improving patient outcomes across the lifespan.
