Background

Despite significant progress in recent years, women continue to be underrepresented in research—currently making up less than 30% of researchers worldwide. Persistent biases and enduring gender stereotypes still discourage many girls and women from pursuing careers in science, especially in STEM fields. Yet, as highlighted by UNESCO, advancing science and achieving gender equality are both vital for sustainable global development. Transforming the landscape of science requires promoting gender equity, dispelling stereotypes, and empowering women and girls to pursue STEM opportunities.

With this vision in mind, Frontiers in Genome Editing is proud to provide a platform dedicated to showcasing the achievements and contributions of women scientists in genome editing research.

This special collection celebrates the breadth and diversity of research driven by women, including advances in theory, experimentation, and methodology, and their applications to today’s most compelling scientific challenges.

Please note: To be considered for this collection, the first or last author must identify as a woman.
