Highlights from the 10th Brazilian Conference on Natural Products (BCNP) and XXXVI Meeting on Micromolecular Evolution, Systematics and Ecology (RESEM)

This collection compiles selected output from the 10th Brazilian Conference on Natural Products (BCNP) and XXXVI Meeting on Micromolecular Evolution, Systematics and Ecology (RESEM), organized by the Natural Products Division of the Brazilian Chemical Society, held at UFMG in in Belo Horizonte from November 4 to 7, 2025. It aims to highlight recent progress across the full breadth of natural products science and to reflect on future challenges facing researchers worldwide.

Since 2007, the BCNP has provided a platform to advance the chemistry, biology, and design of natural products. This Research Topic showcases advances spanning isolation and purification; structural and stereochemical analysis; biosynthesis and pathway regulation; computational and informatics approaches; and rigorously defined biological activities of natural products from terrestrial and marine sources. We particularly encourage contributions that leverage Brazil’s biodiversity and modern workflows that accelerate natural product discovery and understanding, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals 3, 9, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

Studies focused on ethnopharmacology and its applications without defined chemical entities, rigorous chemical characterization, and mechanistic bioactivity—and studies centered on clinical microbiology, diagnosis, or treatment that lack a molecular target/mechanism in the context of natural products—will be considered out of scope.
