Abstract

Background: The clinical role of endoscopic resection in the treatment 14 of exophytic gastric schwannomas measuring ≥3 cm remains 15 controversial owing to technical difficulties and a paucity of evidence. 16 Case presentation: A 58-year-old female patient was admitted for 17 treatment after a gastric mass was discovered during routine physical 18 examination. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) revealed a 19 well-demarcated, hypoechoic submucosal tumor measuring 40.9×32.3 20 mm. The patient subsequently underwent endoscopic submucosal 21 dissection (ESD) under general anesthesia . Histopathological analysis 22 confirmed the diagnosis of gastric schwannoma, with 23 immunohistochemical staining showing strong S-100 protein positivity . 24 The patient had an uneventful recovery with no procedure-related 25 complications, and there has been no evidence of recurrence to date. 26 Conclusion: While this single-case experience indicates the technical 27 feasibility of ESD for gastric schwannomas >3 cm, larger-scale 28 prospective studies are required to establish its role in clinical practice. 29 Trial registration: Not applicable.
