Background

The agriculture and food production sector has major social and economic inequalities, and it has experienced massive transformations and changes due to many factors such as technology, power structures of the society, political shifts, social movements, historical causes, state policies, adoption of new practices, climate change, and radical innovations. Though our overall productivity as a whole has been on a rise, this doesn't necessarily translate into similar benefits for everyone involved in the production process. Across the world, the domain of agriculture and food production experiences rampant exploitation and unjust practices. To counter this, there are many who are working to leverage technology to improve these inequities.

Researchers, experts, and scholars from both industry and academia are encouraged to submit original research or use cases which document and demonstrate how blockchain technology is being or has been used in agriculture and food production to improve equity for all concerned stakeholders. Studies which document uses of blockchain technology that have been designed with attention to the real-world contextual conditions of the particular region and society in which they have been implemented, are especially welcomed.
