About this Research Topic
The UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) is the mechanism for inter-and multidisciplinary studies of the ocean that provides the knowledge to increase awareness and to build the capacity to realize effective adaptation to the changes.
This Research Topic brings together current interdisciplinary thinking around climate change and the role of the ocean in this process. We aim to obtain submissions that will reflect a state-of-the-art picture of interdisciplinary climate and ocean research, including transdisciplinary studies, spanning research fields, and including knowledge brokerage on ocean literacy, with the goal of highlighting the key role of the ocean and climate knowledge for the UN2030 Agenda.
Communication, collaboration, and mutual learning between research and wider stakeholders are among the most important issues included in the 2030 Agenda, which also aims at facilitating collaborative partnerships to provide more effective science-based use of the ocean and its resources.
With these objectives in mind, we invite all papers dealing with the following key issues:
• interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies of ocean role in climate processes
• interdisciplinary studies of large scale ocean hazards for coastal societies
• advanced and innovative approaches to global climate change Monitoring
• ocean Literacy and Citizen Science in the era of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development
• innovative approaches to education and increasing public awareness of climate mitigation and adaptation needs, with respect to coastal challenges
• new policy approaches to conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ).
Keywords: UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, SDG 13, SDG 14, Climate Change, Ocean Literacy
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements.
