Background

The transition to a green energy future is a pivotal component in addressing climate change and achieving sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 7, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. Despite the urgency to mitigate climate change, the high upfront costs associated with green energy technologies and infrastructure remain a significant barrier, especially for low-income communities and developing nations. This issue has gained prominence at international forums such as COP28, where the need for affordable and accessible energy transition is being emphasized. Recent studies have shown a rapid increase in renewable energy installations, yet the financial burden continues to hinder widespread adoption. Current efforts to address these challenges include exploring innovative financing models and policy frameworks, but there remains a critical need for comprehensive strategies that ensure inclusivity and equity in the green energy transition.

This research topic aims to advance understanding and generate knowledge on affordable investment for the green energy transition. By bringing together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, the goal is to identify barriers and challenges that hinder affordable investment, explore innovative financing mechanisms, and examine successful case studies. Additionally, the research seeks to investigate the role of public-private partnerships, analyze policy frameworks, assess the impact of social and economic inclusion, and discuss potential risks and uncertainties associated with affordable investment in green energy.

To gather further insights into the complexities of affordable investment in the green energy sector, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• innovative financing models such as green bonds, crowdfunding, and community-based financing for green energy projects
• case studies on successful models of affordable investment in renewable energy installations, energy efficiency measures, and sustainable infrastructure
• analysis of policy frameworks, incentives, and regulations that promote affordable investment and encourage private sector engagement
• technological advancements and digital solutions that can enhance affordability in the green energy transition
• inclusive business models and strategies that allow for affordable access to green energy services, particularly in remote and underserved areas
• role of capacity building, education, and awareness campaigns in promoting affordable investment
• strategies to leverage international cooperation and institutional support for affordable investment in green energy transition.
