About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is still accepting articles.

Background

The field of perception research has long been dominated by male scientists, with women making up less than 30% of researchers worldwide. This gender disparity is largely due to enduring biases and stereotypes that discourage women from pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Despite these challenges, gender equality in science is crucial for sustainable development, as emphasized by UNESCO. To address this issue, it is essential to promote gender equality, challenge stereotypes, and encourage more women to enter STEM fields. Recent studies have shown that diverse research teams produce more innovative and impactful results, yet the representation of women in perception research remains limited. This gap highlights the need for platforms that showcase the contributions of women scientists and foster an inclusive research environment.

This Research Topic aims to highlight and promote the work of women scientists in the field of perception. By providing a dedicated platform, we seek to showcase the diversity of research conducted by women and to advance our understanding of perception through innovative theories, experiments, and methodologies. The primary objective is to encourage more women to pursue careers in perception research and to challenge the traditional mindsets that have historically limited their participation.

To gather further insights in the field of perception research, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Advances in perceptual theory and models
- Experimental studies on sensory perception
- Methodological innovations in perception research
- Applications of perception research to real-world problems
- Cross-disciplinary approaches to understanding perception
- Gender disparities and their impact on perception research
- Case studies highlighting the contributions of women in perception research

Please note: to be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a researcher who identifies as a woman.
