Submission deadlines

  1. Manuscript Submission Deadline 31 January 2026

  2. This Research Topic is currently accepting articles.

Background

In response to the growing complexity and abundance of health-related data, this Research Topic seeks to explore and advance the field of information visualization for health. As the volume of health information continues to expand, effective visualization techniques become imperative for extracting meaningful insights, aiding decision-making processes, and ultimately improving healthcare outcomes.
This article collection aims to bring together cutting-edge research and innovative approaches in information visualization that address the unique challenges within the health domain. We invite contributions that span a wide range of topics, including but not limited to electronic health records (EHRs), medical imaging, public health data, wearable device data, and patient engagement.

This collection encourages submissions that present methodological advancements in information visualization techniques, including interactive visualizations, machine learning integration, and the use of augmented reality for health-related data. By disseminating the latest research in information visualization for health, this special issue aims to contribute to the development of robust tools and techniques that have the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery. We anticipate that the insights gained from these visualizations will lead to more informed decision-making, improved patient outcomes, and advancements in population health.

More precisely, this Research Topic welcomes submissions focusing on (but not limited to) the following themes:
- EHR Visualizations: Explore novel methods for representing electronic health records to enhance data accessibility, interpretability, and usability for healthcare professionals;
- Medical Imaging: Investigate visual analytics techniques for medical imaging data, facilitating the interpretation of complex images and aiding in diagnosis and treatment planning;
- Public Health Data: Address the visualization challenges associated with large-scale public health datasets, promoting the understanding of health trends, disease patterns, and resource allocation;
- Wearable Device Data: Examine visualization techniques for wearable device-generated health data, fostering a deeper understanding of individual health behaviors and outcomes;
- Patient-Centric Visualizations: Explore approaches to visualize health information that empower patients to actively engage in their healthcare journey, promoting health literacy and shared decision-making.

Researchers, practitioners, and scholars are invited to submit their original contributions to this Research Topic. Submissions should demonstrate a clear connection to information visualization for health and showcase novel approaches or insights that contribute to the broader landscape of healthcare informatics.
