Musculoskeletal aging is a critical area of research that addresses key aspects of health and mobility in the aging population. Historically, representation of women in STEM fields, including musculoskeletal research, has been disproportionately low. Current statistics show that women constitute less than a third of researchers globally, with prevalent biases and societal stereotypes often discouraging their participation in science. Despite these challenges, promoting gender equality aligns with global sustainable development goals and is essential for driving comprehensive scientific progress.
This Research Topic aims to showcase and promote the significant contributions of women in the field of musculoskeletal aging. By highlighting the work of female scientists, this collection intends not only to celebrate achievements but also to inspire an inclusive future for the scientific community. It aims to dismantle persistent gender stereotypes in STEM and advocate for a balanced representation that can propel the field forward.
To gather further insights in the sphere of musculoskeletal aging, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Innovations in the biological understanding of musculoskeletal aging - Gender-specific studies in musculoskeletal health - Emerging technologies and methodologies in aging research - Interventional strategies and clinical trials led by women - Socioeconomic impacts on aging research from a gender perspective
Please note, to be considered for inclusion in this Research Topic, articles should feature a woman as either the first or last author.
