Background

Cancer refers to a group of complicated diseases which is one of the top two leading causes of death globally. Traditional chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause many side effects; so, developing new and more effective cancer treatments methods with target specificity is necessary. RNA therapy involves the use of RNA-based molecules to treat or prevent a disease that have been applied to experiments and clinical trials. RNA-based medicines and vaccines such as mRNA, ASOs, siRNA, or aptamers change the standard of care for cancers and hold immense potential for personalized cancer therapy. To date, about 20 RNA-based medications have been Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clinical use.

Since the traditional cancer treatments cause many side effects, and are not personalized and offer treating in big groups of people; it is critical to focus on effective and patient-specific treatments. Currently, RNAs, as key messengers in genetic information, are being actively investigated as effective preclinical and clinical therapeutics. In addition, developing many different systems for their specific delivery to target cells makes them consider as more effective therapies with minimizing off-target effects.

As RNA-based therapies have shown demonstrated promising effects for cancer treatment,

in this issue we will have an update on the advancements and challenges in RNA based therapies for cancer treatment. This issue includs both novel RNA targets and RNA delivery systems to cancer cells.

• Roles of different types of RNAs including lncRNAs, miRNAs and circular RNAs,..in cancer promotion, development, invation, angiogenesis and metastasis,...

• Developing novel systems for RNA delivery to cancer cells

•Novel RNA targets for cancer treatment

• Research and Review manuscripts
