Background

Research in respiratory diseases has expanded our understanding of how lung conditions are linked with and impact other organ systems, such as the heart, kidneys, brain, and digestive organs. This interconnectedness creates a complex web of comorbidities and significantly influences overall health outcomes and patient prognoses. Inflammatory reactions, hypoxia, metabolic disturbances, abnormal blood flow, and the interactions between organ systems like the heart-lung axis and the kidney-lung axis are central elements that contribute to these comorbid conditions, necessitating further examination and understanding. Although significant progress has been made in identifying these interactions, uncovering the precise mechanisms and contributing factors remains crucial, as identifying the identification of biomarkers for early screening, disease progression and prognosis, and developing comprehensive treatment strategies.

This research topic aims to investigate the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of common lung conditions intertwined with multiple organ diseases. The primary questions this research seeks to address are: How do inflammatory processes and hypoxia contribute to systemic comorbidities? What are the key biomarkers for early detection and prognosis of lung-associated multiple organ diseases? And how can integrated management approaches improve patient outcomes? By addressing these questions, the research will facilitate timely diagnosis, precise interventions, and tailored therapeutic strategies, ultimately enhancing the quality of life and survival rates for patients with multisystem diseases associated with lung conditions.

To gather further insights into the mechanisms, diagnosis, and management of lung diseases with multisystem impacts, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
o Exploring the pathogenesis of lung-related multisystemic comorbidities
o Cross-organ influences in lung disease
o Identification and validation of biomarkers for lung and multiple organ disorders
o Integration of multi-omics approaches in understanding lung disease mechanisms and progression
o Comprehensive management and treatment strategies for pulmonary diseases with comorbidities
o Developing novel therapies and auxiliary treatments for lung-related multisystemic comorbidities
