Glomerulonephritis encompasses a heterogeneous group of kidney disorders characterized by inflammation of the glomeruli. Recent advancements in the understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms have highlighted the pivotal role of the complement system and other immune-mediated pathways. Despite current therapeutic approaches, many patients continue to experience disease progression, highlighting the necessity for novel, targeted treatments. This Research Topic aims to discuss the most recent and promising therapeutic developments focusing on complement regulators and other emerging biological targets. Contributions will address underlying biological mechanisms, novel drug candidates, ongoing clinical trials, translational research strategies, and personalized therapeutic approaches for GN.
This Research Topic aims to critically evaluate recent advances in the understanding and targeting of complement pathways and other immune-related mechanisms implicated in GN. Specifically, the topic seeks contributions that discuss:
- The biology and pathophysiology of complement-mediated GN. - Emerging therapeutic agents targeting the complement cascade (e.g., factor inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies). - Clinical trials evaluating complement-based therapies. - Novel biomarkers predicting response to complement-targeted interventions. - Advances in personalized medicine strategies and "precision nephrology". - Translational research bridging preclinical studies and clinical implementation.
The goal is to foster dialogue, encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, and ultimately improve patient outcomes through innovative therapeutic approaches.
We welcome submissions in the form of Original Research Articles, Reviews, Mini-Reviews, Clinical Trials, Case Reports, and Perspective Articles. Contributions should focus on:
- Mechanistic insights and preclinical studies of complement involvement in GN. - Clinical data from trials evaluating new complement-modulating therapies. - Identification of new molecular targets beyond the complement system. - Strategies and methodologies to improve precision medicine and patient stratification. - Discussion on safety profiles and pharmacodynamics of novel therapeutic agents.
This Research Topic aims to integrate cutting-edge scientific knowledge with clinical practice, thus enhancing the therapeutic landscape for patients with glomerulonephritis.
