Aquaculture has already surpassed fisheries as a food source for a growing human population. However, this industry faces multiple stressors that jeopardize its current and future development. For instance, infectious diseases and environmental problems negatively impact the health and welfare of farmed species, increasing their mortality and causing economic losses that affect both the industry and the communities directly or indirectly related. Thus, research is still needed to strengthen animal resilience and robustness throughout the farming process.
By combining aspects such as vaccine development, functional feeds, and farming and disease management, novel practical approaches can contribute to strengthening the resilience and welfare of aquaculture-related species against stressors. Therefore, the current Research Topic aims to create a knowledge platform based on the collection of innovative research to support aquaculture production and its sustainability.
