Tropical wetlands are among the most vital ecosystems globally, serving key roles in biodiversity conservation, climate regulation, water purification, and carbon sequestration. They are particularly susceptible to climate change, shifting land use, and unsustainable resource practices. Existing management practices often struggle to keep pace with these pressures, calling for innovative solutions. Recent advancements in technology have begun to influence the management and conservation of tropical wetlands. Emerging technologies - like remote sensing, GIS, smart tools, data analytics, and digital platforms - are transforming the understanding and monitoring of these ecosystems. However, employing these technologies effectively remains problematic, as many regions suffer from knowledge gaps and limited research, undermining timely decision-making and solution implementation.
This Research Topic aims to investigate how technological advancements can be harnessed to improve sustainability, resilience, and management decision-making within tropical wetlands. The goal is to bridge critical gaps by exploring new methodologies, enhancing ecological resilience, and fostering inclusive community engagement. Questions include how technologies can aid in real-time monitoring and predictive modeling, and what strategies can promote sustainable practices.
