About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is currently accepting articles, but is closing soon.

Background

RNA biology has emerged as a critical area of study in understanding the mechanisms of infection and disease. The complexity of RNA molecules, including their various forms and functions, plays a crucial role in cellular processes and the progression of diseases. Recent advancements in RNA research have unveiled the myriad ways in which RNA contributes to both the pathogenicity of infectious agents and the host’s response to infection. While significant progress has been made, there remain substantial gaps in knowledge regarding the diversity of RNA species involved, their regulatory mechanisms, and their impact on disease dynamics. Bridging these gaps is essential for developing novel therapeutic strategies and improving disease management.

This Research Topic aims to explore the multifaceted roles of RNA in the context of infection and disease. By focusing on RNA biology, the goal is to delineate the molecular pathways by which RNA influences infection processes and disease outcomes. This includes investigating how RNA molecules mediate host-pathogen interactions, regulate immune responses, and contribute to disease pathogenesis. Additionally, the research aims to identify potential RNA-based biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis, as well as explore RNA-targeted therapeutic interventions that could revolutionize treatment paradigms.

To gather further insights into the RNA biology of infection and disease, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- The role of non-coding RNAs in regulating immune response during infections

- RNA-mediated mechanisms of pathogen virulence and host-pathogen interactions

- RNA modifications and their implications in infectious diseases

- Identification of RNA biomarkers for disease diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic response

- Development and application of RNA-based antiviral and antimicrobial therapies

This Research Topic invites contributions that utilize cutting-edge methodologies, integrate multi-omics approaches, and offer novel insights into the interplay between RNA biology and infectious diseases.
