Background

This research topic, "Cognitive Impairment and Physical Function in Older Adults - Volume II," was launched due to the success of the previous topic, "Cognitive Impairment and Physical Function in Older Adults." Feel free to check out the first volume here:
Cognitive Impairment and Physical Function in Older Adults

The rapid growth of the aging population is associated with a high prevalence of age-related cognitive impairments, which present significant challenges to quality of life and healthcare systems. Older adults with neurocognitive disorders are known to be at a high risk of falls, musculoskeletal disorders, and impaired quality of life; however, the complex relationship between cognitive status, body composition, and physical function remains an area of active investigation.

Current research is increasingly focused on elucidating the connections between cognitive function and physical health in older adults, including its association with critical issues like sarcopenia and fall risk. In response, a growing body of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is now evaluating the efficacy of various interventions. Promising strategies currently under investigation include structured multicomponent exercise programs, qigong training, and resistance exercise regimens, which are demonstrating potential for concurrent improvement in both cognitive and physical domains.

This second volume (Volume II) of the collection continues our exploration into the critical links between cognitive impairment and physical function in older adults. This Research Topic will highlight the current state of knowledge while charting a course for future discovery.

We encourage the submission of a diverse range of article types to this collection. In addition to Original Research papers, we are particularly interested in comprehensive Reviews, Systematic Reviews, and Meta-Analyses that synthesize existing evidence and identify future directions. Mini-Reviews and Brief Research Reports that concisely address emerging trends are also welcome.

Even though manuscript summary submission is not mandatory, we encourage all interested researchers to submit a manuscript summary before submitting their full manuscript. Manuscript summary do not have to coincide with the final abstract of the manuscripts.
