From Alpha Rhythms to Clinical Tools: EEG's Journey in Alzheimer's Research

Electroencephalography (EEG) has evolved from a basic investigative tool in neurophysiology to a valuable instrument in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research and clinical practice. This Research Topic invites original research, reviews, and perspectives that illustrate EEG’s dynamic contributions to understanding, diagnosing, and managing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.



We seek studies that explore the full spectrum of EEG applications—from the characterization of altered alpha rhythms and other neural oscillations in neurodegeneration, to the identification and validation of EEG-based biomarkers for early diagnosis, prognosis, and disease monitoring. Submissions may focus on methodological advancements, such as quantitative EEG analysis, connectivity measures, machine learning approaches, and multimodal integrations. We also welcome reports on the translation of EEG findings into routine clinical settings, including their role in differential diagnosis, assessment of cognitive function, and evaluation of therapeutic interventions.
