Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Although strong evidence demonstrates that up to 80% of strokes are preventable, that timely acute management reduces disability and mortality, and that early and continuous rehabilitation improves long-term outcomes, a substantial gap persists between knowledge and implementation—particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and underserved populations within high-income nations.
The Global Stroke Alliance for Stroke Without Frontiers Series seeks to highlight global experiences and successful strategies in implementing stroke programs across the full continuum of care. This initiative aims to foster collaboration, disseminate lessons learned, and promote the translation of evidence into sustainable practice to reduce the global burden of stroke.
We welcome submissions that explore implementation research, health-system innovation, and real-world models of stroke program delivery in any setting. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Primary prevention and integration of stroke prevention into primary health care • Pre-hospital systems and emergency stroke response • Acute stroke management and reperfusion therapies • Post-acute in-hospital management and early rehabilitation • Community-based and outpatient rehabilitation, long-term follow-up, and continuity of care • Policy, education, and advocacy initiatives supporting stroke systems of care • Multisectoral partnerships involving health authorities, professional societies, industry, academia, and patient organizations • Digital health, telemedicine, and data-driven approaches to improve access, quality, and monitoring of stroke care
Submissions may include original research, implementation frameworks, or policy analyses showcasing how diverse countries and stakeholders are closing the gap between evidence and action.
By compiling these examples, this Research Topic aims to provide practical guidance and inspiration for health systems worldwide to implement effective and equitable stroke programs—ultimately advancing the goal of stroke without frontiers.
