Advanced epithelial ovarian cancer is a critical focus within gynaecologic oncology, as it continues to pose significant clinical challenges due to frequent late diagnosis, poor long-term prognosis, and the emergence of drug resistance. Recent years have witnessed notable progress in surgical interventions and systemic therapies, yet the overall survival rates remain unsatisfactory for patients with advanced disease.
The advent of molecular characterization techniques, precision medicine, and targeted agents such as PARP inhibitors and antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs) has ushered in a new era of potential therapies. However, the heterogeneity of responses, evolving mechanisms of resistance, and a limited repertoire of validated predictive biomarkers underscore the complexity of effective disease management. Ongoing debates focus on the best strategies for integrating emerging agents, refining patient selection, and optimizing combination approaches to improve both treatment efficacy and patient outcomes.
This Research Topic aims to advance the understanding and management of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer by spotlighting innovative strategies and novel therapeutic modalities. Key objectives include elucidating mechanisms underpinning therapy resistance, identifying actionable therapeutic targets, and evaluating the clinical impact of combining novel agents such as ADCs and selective receptor modulators. It seeks to address how integrative molecular and genomic profiling can inform therapeutic decisions, as well as how multidisciplinary and patient-centred approaches can enhance care and quality of life. By synthesizing translational and clinical research, this collection strives to move the field toward more individualized, durable, and effective treatment strategies.
The scope of this Research Topic encompasses original research and review articles that address frontier developments and persistent challenges in the management of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. Submissions may include translational studies, clinical trials, and cutting-edge reviews.
