Background

The European School of Metabolomics (EUSM) is a leading initiative dedicated to training and inspiring the next generation of metabolomics researchers, bringing together early-career scientists and renowned experts in the field.

It is an intensive, hands-on training week for PhD candidates, postdocs, and early-career researchers designed to equip young scientists with the knowledge and tools to explore the metabolome in depth. The event is organized and conducted by early career researchers who also identify the conference topics and prepare and moderate their topical sessions.

EUSM 2026, the third edition of this learning hub, is organised in collaboration with the BeNeLux Metabolomics Centre and supported by Leiden University and the laboratory of Prof. dr. Thomas Hankemeier. It focuses on the below topics:

2️. Data Processing & Bioinformatics

3️. Advanced & Translational Applications

4️. Collaboration & Community

This Research Topic aims to feature articles authored by early career researchers who were involved in the summer school. As emerging experts in their respective fields of metabolomics, they are invited to contribute articles on specific topics within the topical frame of the summer school.
