Influence of Knowledge Management Practices on Librarians̕ ' Competency in Artificial Intelligence in Tertiary Institutions of Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria

The increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in libraries has created a need for librarians to develop the necessary competency to effectively utilize AI technologies. Knowledge management practices (KMP) are critical in enabling librarians to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively use AI technologies. This study investigates the influence of KMP on librarians' competency in AI in tertiary institutions in Lokoja, Nigeria. A survey of librarians in tertiary institutions in Lokoja was conducted to gather data on their KMP and competency in AI. The study integrated the SECI Model, TAM, and Organizational Learning theoretical framework to provides a robust foundation for understanding how KM practices enhance librarians' AI competency while addressing adoption challenges. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression with correlation analysis. The regression model shows that knowledge management practices significantly predict AI competency. An R² value of 0.61 confirms that KM practices explain 61% of the variance in librarians' competency in artificial intelligence. The results show that knowledge management practices currently adopted by librarians in the study area include knowledge sharing, knowledge creation, Knowledge organization and knowledge application. The finding also reveals that technical issues are the major challenges faced by librarians in adopting knowledge management practices in AI. The study concludes that KMP are essential in enabling librarians to develop the necessary competency in AI. The study recommends that libraries in tertiary institutions in Lokoja should prioritize KMP to enhance librarians' competency in AI. The study recommends that libraries provide continuous training and professional development opportunities to enhance librarians̕ knowledge Management practice (KMP) and competency in artificial intelligence. It also advocates for increased investment in artificial intelligence technologies and infrastructure to support and improve librarians work.
