This paper presents the findings of a stakeholder mapping exercise focused on higher education professionals and their approaches to metaverse-like environments and technologies. The study aims to understand the current perceptions of metaverse-related technologies and how educational institutions can facilitate student engagement with virtual worlds to acquire new knowledge and skills. Through an analysis of 20 in-depth interviews with higher education professionals, the paper aims to help add further details both about the possibilities and the barriers related to their understanding of the 'metaverse' and explores its potential to introduce innovative educational methods, particularly in the context of experiential learning.
