About this Research Topic

Manuscript Submission Deadline 20 August 2023

As the world's population is exponentially growing, increasing access to sustainable livestock products is crucial for world food security. Nonetheless, it may also result in adverse and long-lasting negative environmental impacts. There are some emerging technologies that have been used to support the sustainable development of livestock production whilst reducing their negative impact on the environment. However, further investigation is required to introduce better alternative strategies to maintain and improve productivity while reducing pollution.

This Research Topic seeks to bring together efforts to increase the productivity of milk, meat, wool, eggs, and other animal good production systems that also reduce the environmental pollution created by these practices. Therefore, this Research Topic seeks contributions which may relate to novel techniques for livestock and feed management, genetic and selection strategies, or management practices that meet these criteria.

We invite all researchers with expertise in animal science to submit original research papers and reviews which address but are not limited to:
- the influence of livestock production systems on the environment (environmentally friendly animal production systems: impact and challenges);
- propose novel nutritional or management strategies to minimize the negative impacts of environment/animals on each other
- the economic and environmental trade-offs of different animal production systems
- potential for using precision farming technology to reduce the environmental pollution produced by animal production systems
- potential for using alternative feed sources to reduce the environmental pollution produced by animal production systems

Keywords: Livestock production, Livestock welfare, Environmental pollution, sustanability, Animal production system, Precise animal nutrition, Animal biosecurity

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
