Background

Agronomy, as a pivotal science and practice in crop production, plays a crucial role in addressing multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Hunger, Health, Water, Work, Consumption, Climate, and Land. It is fundamentally concerned with the interactions between genotype, environment, and management (GxExM), which are essential for optimizing food production and nutritional quality. Despite its significance, the field faces challenges such as gender imbalances among agronomic professionals and the need for sustainable practices that align with environmental conservation. Recent studies have highlighted the importance of integrating spatial and temporal monitoring technologies, such as Geomatics, to enhance traditional agronomic practices. However, there remains a gap in fully understanding and modeling the complex interactions within ecosystems, which is crucial for predicting and improving food production systems. This gap underscores the need for advanced simulation models and statistical tools to better project the GxExM interactions.

This research topic aims to explore the intersection of agronomy and Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land. The primary objective is to investigate how agronomic practices can contribute to sustainable land management and conservation efforts. Key questions include how crop rotations and intercropping can reduce soil erosion, the role of conservation tillage in improving soil health, and the potential of remote sensing technologies in managing cropping systems. By addressing these questions, the research seeks to enhance our understanding of sustainable agronomic practices and their impact on land conservation.

To gather further insights in the realm of agronomy and its contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 15, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Sustainable Land Management Systems
- Crop rotations and intercropping to reduce soil erosion
- Conservation tillage to reduce soil erosion and improve soil health
- Remote sensing and Geomatics in the assessment and management of cropping systems
- Cover crops to promote soil fertility and water conservation
- Agroecological biodiversity practices.
