Background

Sustainable management of water resources is a critical area of focus in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 6th SDG, in particular, aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. However, achieving this goal by 2030 presents significant challenges, including the need for accurate, timely, and comprehensive data on water resources. Recent advances in remote sensing techniques offer potential solutions to these challenges, but their application in this field is still in its nascent stages. There is a need for more extensive research to explore the potential of remote sensing in the sustainable management of water resources.

This research topic aims to address the application of remote sensing techniques in the sustainable management of water resources. The main objective is to explore how these techniques can contribute to achieving the 6th SDG by 2030. Specific questions to be answered include: How can remote sensing be used to monitor and manage water resources effectively? What are the potential applications of remote sensing in assessing the impacts of climate change on water resources? How can remote sensing contribute to improving water productivity?

To gather further insights into the application of remote sensing in the sustainable management of water resources we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

· Applications of remote sensing in assessing climate change impacts on water resources;

· Use of remote sensing for monitoring ocean surfaces;

· Potential of remote sensing in improving water productivity;

· Satellite assessment of aquatic systems;

· Remote sensing techniques for complex coastal and shallow water areas.
