Background

Dissemination and implementation science is a field that focuses on understanding the best ways to translate evidence-based interventions into practice. It aims to bridge the gap between research and practice by studying the methods and strategies that promote the adoption, implementation, and sustainability of evidence-based interventions in real-world settings. Implementation science provides a framework for designing, evaluating, and disseminating effective implementation strategies that can improve the delivery of healthcare services and the health outcomes of individuals and populations. It also helps to systematically identify barriers, solutions to overcoming barriers, and facilitators that can be leveraged. The field has wide-ranging applications, including across medicine and healthcare, public health, health professions, education, and social services.

There is currently no set standard for incorporating dissemination and implementation science into medicine, medical education curricula, or subsequent medical training, an area where its inclusion could be especially advantageous. We aim to investigate gaps and barriers in dissemination and implementation applied research in medicine, methods, and health professions education. Incorporating implementation science can help healthcare professionals develop the knowledge and skills necessary to critically evaluate research and translate it into their clinical practice.

The following themes regarding dissemination and implementation science are welcome in the collection:
• Dissemination and implementation applications in medicine
• Dissemination and implementation education for health professions
• Cost, Cost-effectiveness, and intervention costing
• Needs and strategies for integrating implementation science into medical curriculum
• Designs for health professions coursework with a focus on dissemination and implementation science
• The role of technology in dissemination and implementation science
• Methodologies for health professions training in implementation science and research
• The role of implementation science in evidence-based healthcare
• Methods of developing leadership skills for health professions through dissemination and implementation science
• Continuing professional development in implementation science for healthcare professionals
