Existing research has begun exploring AI's role in digital content creation, with a particular focus on content personalization, production efficiency, and the ethical implications of AI-generated content. However, there remains a significant gap in our understanding of how human-AI collaboration affects the quality, creativity, and reception of digital media content. Current studies have not adequately addressed the intricate dynamics of this collaboration in content creation, its impact on media literacy and public discourse, the radical change in the semiotic codes and material systems, or the development of policies and frameworks to guide AI-assisted content creation in digital media.
This intersectional field of research holds the potential to inform the development of more effective, ethical, and inclusive AI applications in digital media so that human creative subjectivity can be re-understood. By deepening our understanding of human-AI collaborative creativity, we can cultivate a communication landscape that harnesses the strengths of both human creativity and technological innovation to enhance our digital experiences. The ultimate goal of this Research Topic is to elucidate the theoretical, practical, and policy dimensions of human-AI collaborative creativity in digital media, thereby contributing to a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of this transformative phenomenon.
We welcome submissions that aim to enhance our understanding of human-AI collaborative creativity in digital media, including theoretical explorations, methodological innovations, practical applications, and policy development. Contributions are also encouraged to explore diverse perspectives from creators, distributors, consumers, and policy-makers. Potential topics for submission include, but are not limited to, the following:
• human-AI collaborative creativity model • technological capabilities of AI in co-creative tasks • AI’s impact on the digital creation process and AI’s role in promoting creativity • data and privacy practices in co-creativity • cultural, creative, and tech industrial perspectives on collaborative creativity • human and AI subjectivities on creativity • applications and challenges in human-AI collaboration • perceptions of human-AI creative production.
